Food Bank on the Edge

Food Bank on the Edge co-ordinates donations of food and ensures food is distributed quickly and efficiently to people in need in both Ucluelet and Tofino.

Child & Youth Mental Health

Services for children and youth ages 0-18 who face mental health challenges. We provide assessment and treatment, consultation and case management. Multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

Services are free and confidential.

To discuss a referral or for more information call (250) 720-2650 and ask to speak to the Child and Youth Mental Health Intake Worker.

 

Alberni Community & Women’s Services Society

They are committed to building a healthy community and improving the status of women. We provide a safe place and innovative services for women, children, men, and families.

Port Alberni Family Guidance

Provides counselling services to youth, families, and individuals, as well as parenting support groups.

  • Rainbows for Children is a grief group for children ages five to 12 who are dealing with loss. No referral is necessary and there is no fee for these services.

  • Youth outreach services to at-risk youth ages 12 to 24.

  • Provides counselling for clients with multiple health issues; referrals through Community Health Services.

  • Offers a relationship violence program for men who have pled guilty, or have been found guilty, of spousal assault; referrals through Stroh Health Care.

Outreach Therapy Programs & Services

Outreach Therapy offers various publicly funded programs to children and families in the Port Alberni Valley region, West Coast and surrounding areas.  

  • Early Intervention services are for children birth-preschool age.

  • Early Childhood Mental Health Health services are for children infant-5 years of age.

  • School Age services are for children who have entered the school system with SD 70. 

  • Extra Occupational Therapy for children with Autism Funding, At Home Funding, Jordan's Principle Funding, or other private funding sources.

Single Parent Employment Initiative

Are you a single parent on Income or Disability Assistance?

The single parent employment initiative can help you secure employment by providing opportunities such as up to 12 months of funded training for in-demand jobs or paid work experience placements. In addition, child-care costs are covered during training and in the first year of employment.

If you are in need and have no other resources, you may be eligible for income assistance. This can help support your transition to employment.

DISABILITY ASSISTANCE

Disability assistance can help you if you need financial or health support. You must be designated as a Person with Disabilities (PWD) to receive this type of assistance.

Port Alberni Backpack Program

The program operates from the United Church on Church Street. They provide nutritious food on weekends for families living on or below the poverty line who reside In the Dunn and Maquinna School catchment area. A dedicated group of 8 volunteers pack the bags on Thursdays.

Dunn families can pick up food at the United Church.

Maquinna families can pick up food in the Maquinna Library.
